How to remove space before chapter title?

by Anees   Last Updated October 09, 2019 17:23 PM

I am writing a thesis report and when I start including the chapters in preamble, there's a huge space before the title. The first thing that should appear on the page is CHAPTER 1, then in next line, the name of the chapter. And after that, sectioning starts from 1.1.

I have used the following code I took from internet, to reduce the space.

{\normalfont\huge\bfseries}{\chaptertitlename\ \thechapter}{20pt}{\Huge}
% this alters "before" spacing (the second length argument) to 0

And in Chapter 1 file, I am using the following:

As mentioned in many posts, whenever I use the code like \chapter*{Introduction} , it does reduce the space, however, it EXCLUDES CHAPTER 1 heading and set section numbering from 1.1 to 0.1.

Any suggestions please?
