how to pass credentials to api gateway securely?

I have a code at my local machine , with which I want to call a aws lambda function. I have configured API gateway as doorway to lambda function , but I am concerned about security when sending credentials as query string parameters , So could anyone suggest nest approach to pass credentials to aws lambda function even if there is another way then API gateway, but I want to send it dynamically.

You should use the AWS Parameter Store, which is specifically designed to hold secrets needed for accessing cloud resources so that the secrets need never leave the cloud.
